Prayer for the Unexpected

Oh Father God,You are so faithful and so unpredictable! How could any mortal mind dream that the answer to the chaos, violence, hatred, and guilt of this world would come in the form of a little baby.  And yet you dropped this baby right into the midst of us and for two thousand years the impact has been ringing out across creation.  The glory of that gift has truly brought Joy to the World and Good News for All People.  Oh God, don't let us let us dodge the force of that blow.  Don't let us hide in the safety of our routine or the turn away to the distraction of busyness.  No, Father, let us stand up and be blown away by the full force and power of your love.  Blow apart our expectations, our pious earthly wisdom, our petty pursuits, our disobedience, our pride and every other thing which we set up as idols above you.  Tumble us over and over and then lift us from the dust of our broken lives and place us firmly on the foundation that your love has cleared.  May we move through this world and through Miami reconciled, renewed and rejoicing in the unexpected explosion of your love.  Use us to carry forward the incredible miracle that is Christmas.So Be It!
